Swati - Times Are Hard

"The only thing that's changed are the days and nights, chillin' in the park watchin' mad crazy fights. Over who said this and who robbed the other, some one bust a clock, the whole park runs for cover."

Haven't really made up my mind on this record yet. Picked it up a looong time ago, listened to it, and kinda put it to the side....wasn't really diggin' it. I think Swati is from Massachusetts and this record was released some time around '94, don't quote me on that though. Unfortunately I have no idea who did the production work for this song and I know nothing about the label. Like I said, I haven't really made up my mind on this one yet. When I first got it it kinda came off wack but after listenin' to it a couple times I feel this song had alot of potential but kinda fell short. Swati's flow isn't too bad, pretty laid back, but what had me originally hatin' on this record was the RnB vocal samples and the wack guitar samples. Like Swati says, when beat starts to "creep", and the bass line/horn loop comes in you get the feeling that this might be dope, but then the wack RnB hook starts and straight ruins it. Once Swati starts rhymin' you can hear the potential again. The majority of her rhymes stick to the theme of the cut and are pretty dope. So I guess there's just to many things in this song I'm not feelin'. Swati's flow and the bass/horn samples are enjoyable but I just can't get past all the other shit. So since this record is pretty unknown I thought I'd see what you guys think. Maybe you'll find it doper then I do. I don't think I'm going to hold on to this record for very long so if anyone is interested in grabbin' it let me know. Leave some comments..... peace.

Redd Bull & The Kixx Family - Raindrops EP

"Twisted minds, twisted hair, evil grins"

Today I decided to share this dope EP with you all. It is by Redd Bull & The Kixx Family and it was produced by one of Philly's finest, RuggedNess. If you don't know about RuggedNess you should. He is a producer/DJ/MC who is responsible for Ruggedness Mad Drama and the four 12"s they released between '93-'97. RuggedNess has also done loads of production work for Da Fat Cat Clique and recorded tracks with Three Times Dope, Ve Borne, and Ram Squad. The Kixx Family consists of Black Key, Ital Tha Rufian, Dark Man, Newsence, MC Skillz, and K-Sarrah-Harras. This EP was released in 1996 and it's the second 12" by Redd Bull. The first was the Bring On Da Bull EP witch was released in '94 on Kixx Records and it was produced by RuggedNess as well. This EP is so dope because of the main title, Raindrops. Hands down Raindrops is my favorite cut on the 12". A couple other tracks are enjoyable, like Who's Da Baddest and So Happy 2gether. But, again, Raindrops is the definate winner. This record is pretty tough to come by so if you see a copy don't hesitate! Enjoy the record and leave some comments letting me know what you think. Peace!

Centa Of Da Web - Beyond Human Comprehension

"Transmissions and submissions made by our mentality, the Atoms Family exploring outer regions of reality."

Here is one of my favorite LP's. Its by Centa Of Da Web and it was released in 1996 on Centrifugal Phorce Records. Centa Of Da Web consists of three MC's, Da Cryptic One, Molecule, and Whichcraft and they are NYC based group. This LP jump started the movement of the huge hip hop crew, The Atoms Family. At it's start the Atoms Family consisted of close to 30 members. The members of Centa Of Da Web along with Jest One and Alaska were the founders of the Atoms Family. Some early members were Osiris, Analytic, Void, Apathy, Konfucious, Kasm, Delta, Genesis, Poison Pen, and C Rayz Walz. The amount of members of The Atoms Family faded from near 30 to 8. Currently the Atoms Family consists of Da Cryptic One, Jest One, Vast Aire, Vordul Megallah, DJ Cip-One, Alaska, Windnbreeze, and DJ Pawl. The groups Cannibal Ox and Hangar 18 are also Atoms Family based. Cannibal Ox's memebers are Vast Aire, Vordul Megallah, and DJ Cip One. Hangar 18 consists of Alaska, Windnbreeze, and DJ Pawl. The Atoms Family have an impressive discography. In 2000 they released the first album under the name The Atoms Family. That album was titled The Prequel and it's pretty good. After that the Atoms Family started droppin CD's left and right. In 2001 the Euphony LP was released on Centrifugal Phorce. In 2002 this album was pressed on CD along with a slue of freestyles and unreleased tracks. That CD was known as the Atoms Family Archives Vol. 1. Volume 2 was put out in 2005 and features more previously unreleased tracks. There are a few more Atoms Family projects out there like Da Cryptic One's album The Anti-Mobius Strip Theory and the Crypstramentals volumes, witch is a 3 CD collection of instrumentals made by Cryptic one. Well now that you have a little background information on the Atoms Family let's talk about this record. All the cuts on this record were produced by Da Cryptic One. The track's Outer Regions and 5 Lil' Pumpkins were co-produced by Jest One and he's also on the mic in Outer Regions. This album was pressed on green vinyl and it was recorded at Da Crypt in Nassau, New York and all scratches were done by Sugarcuts. I really like all the tracks on this album, the beats and lyrics are all on point, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Most Can't Comprehend. I really like the Pharaoh Monch sample from Stress. So I've wrote enough and I think it's time you check out the files! Hope you learned something. Leave a comment.

Nativ Stanjerz - Moodz EP

"People be thinkin' that we on drugs and stuff, but they don't understand that this flavor is all natural. It's all part of being a bamboozalite, it's all part of being a Nativ Stanjer."

Here is an indie record that, unfortunately, I don't know much about at all so I apologize for the short review. This 12" is by the Nativ Stanjerz, and it was produced by Zakling Alo. I don't know when this record was released but I'm guessing some time in the mid to late 90's. I like all 3 cuts but my favorite is Weed. Well check out this pretty unkown 12" and let me know what you think in the comments! Peace

Ready Ta Roll - Drug Game / Taste The Flavor

"For those who thought I was just a DJ you're wrong. I'm lyrically holdin' explodin' wit' verbal bombs but when it comes to the tables I'm still able to slice, dice, cut, and fuck dem records up!"

Here's a really dope 12" by Ready Ta Roll. Ready Ta Roll are from New Jersey and they released a couple records back in the early 90's. The earliest Ready Ta Roll Creation I'm familiar with is the "That Girl" single released under the name 2 Hard Ta Handle, witch was dropped in 1992 on PEP Records. In 1993 Ready Ta Roll released the Real Hip Hip / Ready Ta Roll VLS. That 12" is on Trumpet Records and isn't to hard to find.. defiantly worth checkin' out. The Drug Game / Taste The Flavor 12" was put out in 1994 on Chanpen Entertainment and their were two separate pressings made. I'm not sure witch one was pressed first, I always assumed that this press was a promotional press because the other one has alot more information on it and the label is colored. You can see it here. I also believe that Ready Ta Roll released an EP on vinyl containing all four cuts from their two other 12"s but I have never seen it. (If you got any info on that let me know.) This 12" was produced by Mark Curry who is the founder of Ready Ta Roll. You might know Mark Curry from his work with Bad Boy Ent. He has done work with Puff Daddy, G-Dep, Lil' Kim, Busta Rhymes and he even spits a verse in Dangerous MCs by Biggy and Snoop Dog. Well if you haven't heard the cuts on this 12" make sure to grab the files because they are both fire. Leave some comments, let me know what you think. Peace.

Dysfunkshunal Familee - Lost & Found EP

Civilized Savages, Armageddon Bodies, Rebels Of The Lost Ark!

Photobucket

I'm sure most of you have heard of Crazy DJ Bazarro and the Dysfunkshunal Familee. They have made a handful of songs since the early 90's. Bazarro started his hip hop career with the Hitman Squad. As far as I know they only put out the Rhoda / Nuthin But Da Truth 12" in '91. A couple years later Bazarro decided to start a new crew. After putting together their own label, Armageddon Records, Bazarro and Da Dysfunkshunal Familee released their first single, New Ruff Flava. A year after they put out their first 12" they released an EP. That EP has 3 different mixes of New Ruff Flava, Slippin, Savage Life, and Hit & Run (Remix). In 1994 they were planing on releasing their first album, sadly Bazarro and the fam never got their LP official released. The un-released album has been all over the net and gained much respect. Recently Bazarro and the fam have made it back to the hip hop scene. A couple months ago they released this EP on Cipherzone Records. This EP has six tracks recorded between 93-95. Two of them, Like That U Don't and To Have or Have Not, were previously completely unreleased. The Dysfunkshunal Familee have a couple more projects planned for the near future. I believe that their un official LP will soon be released, so keep your eyes open. If you haven't heard this EP yet make sure to check the files. Leave some comments!

Uptown Kidz - I Got Da Skilz

Photobucket

Here's the first 12" released by NYC based crew, U.T.K or Uptown Kidz. This record was released in 1992 on Big Boss Records. Cazi-O did the productions for this track. I have one other U.T.K record, released in 1994 and it's on Big Boss as well. That 12" has the tracks How We Roll and Dark Side. They changed their name to U.T.K. Rezerectors on that 12". I don't know if U.T.K has any other 12"s or CDs, I've heard rumors of an LP but I haven't seen it. Personally I like their second 12" more but the song on this 12" is still good. Enjoy the rip and leave a comment. Peace

Aboriginals - Chemistry / Compositions / QNA

Photobucket

The Aboriginals released this record in 1997 on Mecca Life Entertainment. This record has 3 dope tracks. The A side tracks, Chemistry and Compositions, were both produced by Logic and Obsession. QNA was produced by Fingatip and features Mike Zoot. Out of the 3 songs on this record my favorite is Chemistry but the other 2 are definatly worth listening to. This 12" is the Aboriginals second release. In 1996 they released Make It Hot bw The Joint and in 2000 they dropped Numer Theory bw Renaissance, both on Mecca Life Entertainment. The track Keep It Hot is also on the Lost and Found EP, along with tracks by Da Grassroots and Rob-O. Well check these tracks out and tell me what you think of them in the comments. Peace!

Musik G and The Underground Army - Rock On / No Games

Photobucket
Photobucket

Here's a record by Musik G (Musik Generator) and The Underground Army. Musik G & The UGA released this 12" in 1998 on their own label, Underground Army Records. Musik G produced both tracks and No Games features W.H.Y. D Original. I posted this record because I really like the B side track, No Games. Rock On doesn't interest me much at all. Musik G & The Underground Army have recently made a return to the hip hop scene. In 2003 they put out an EP titled The Underground Can't Be Stopped! and last year they released the single, I'm Up. You can find out more info on Musik G and The UGA on their website. So take a second to listen to this record if you haven't heard it already and let me know what you think.

The Brotha Life and X Man Project - Gotta Have It / Rise Up

Photobucket

*I know I've been slow on the updates and I apologize, I've been busy. Next month I will make sure to post alot more. I'll also be posting vinyls on Wax Attack starting next month, so make sure to check for a bunch of dope stuff!*

Here's a nice indie 12" out of NY by The Brotha Life & X Man Project. This record was released on Undercover Records in 1995. Both tracks were produced by Brotha Life and X Man. Brotha Life has another 12" out there that was released in 1993 and has the tracks The Wreck'a and Show Taker. Other than that I don't have any information on these guys. I like the B side, Rise Up, alot more but both tracks are nice. Check it out and drop a comment.
